February 2024 summary

Here’s what happened in February!

We greeted some new faces and said goodbye to others. New dogs were Lily and Angie (large breed dogs), and Lucky (Shiba). All three of them have been adopted, as well as Potato, Puddin, and Jax (two Shibas and a large breed dog). We wish all of them the best in their new forever homes!

We are still looking for a new home for Daddy (large breed dog), he’s very friendly with people but doesn’t do well with other dogs.

We welcomed some owner surrenders of exotic pets as well – two baby tortoises, two scorpions, and a sugar glider. We recognize that giving up a pet is a difficult decision, and we encourage people to do as much research as possible about animal needs before they purchase one (especially exotic animals, whose needs are harder to meet) so they are prepared to be the best animal caregiver possible. Our two new tortoises are being kept in a large, wide tub that will work for them while they are still small, and the scorpions have their own enclosures. All have plenty of substrate for burrowing, which is the natural instinct of these species. The sugar glider has been neutered and we will be doing a slow introduction to the current colony (a small colony of three) to make sure everyone gets along before they are put in the same enclosure.
